Jack | 2 years

Sometimes little ones don’t want to wear the outfits mom brings, even though mom has spent time choosing the perfect outfit; they don’t want to put down their toys, even when the photographer has brought the “perfect” props; they just don’t want to be photographed, even when we’ve planned the date for months. That’s just the kind of evening Jack was having at on this night. Mom wasn’t planning on being a part of the session at all, but Jack didn’t want her to leave his side. Our plans were thrown out the window.

And yet, these images turned out beyond my wildest expectations. I love them. I love their emotion. We see the bond between a mother and a son that we hadn’t planned on capturing, we see the soulful expressions on Jack’s face, and we see the things that he loved the most at 2 years old. These are the real memories; these are the real moments. Thank you, Jack, for reminding us that even when things don’t go as planned, amazing things can still happen. Sometimes the best life lessons come from the littlest ones among us.

I’ve photographed this little beauty since she was a newborn.
